This is an image of the USS Ericsson, a Benson-Gleaves class destroyer that served in the Atlantic and Mediterranean during World War 2. My father was a crew-member on the ship from 1942-1945 as a Gun Captain in charge of one of the turrets. The scene is just after the end of the war, when hostilities were over and the ship is headed back to the US, ending its distinguished military service. The Ericsson was put in storage until 1972, when it was finally scrapped.
Duwayne is a contemporary realist artist, specializing in fine art oil paintings and photography. A California native, he majored in Technical Illustration in college, and attributes much of his artistic ability to the early art training he received from his father. In his twenties, he found a love of oil painting. Much of the attention to detail required in his illustration training has been transferred to his paintings. Learning by trial and error, he now paints realistic pictures of the best of America, bringing to life traditional landscapes, stately victorian houses, small-town scenes, historical early California and Texas missions, Southern scenes and classic military art. Thanks Joyce and Odon. I appreciate your comments. This was a special painting done as a tribute for my father who was a WW2 veteran, an inventor, and a great example for me to follow. He started me on my art journey when I was a kid by teaching me the basics of illustration.
